    Written between 1906 and 1911, this book is born from the necessity of financially sustaining the adventure of the Snark. Thus a variety in the choice of subjects which does not make a book but a succession of tales. Some of these tales are for a specific public : only navigators will have a taste for London's apprenticeship of astronomical navigation; But others are absolutely charming, and the "beche de mer" chapter is a gem! And the whole book is a testimony of how life was beatiful but hard - sickness, violence and all - in these paradisiac South-Seas islands. A great seaman's story !
