The Sun is the source of all heat that warms our planet, the light that allows plants to grow, and the energy that allows us to power satellites to study other planets in the Solar System.

From the Sun, humanity has come to understand time, as watching it formed the basis of the calendar. From timekeeping, came the tracking of seasons, which lead to the evolution of agriculture, and so encouraged the creation of settled communities.

Additionally, the Sun provides clues, by acting as a nearby laboratory, of the physics and chemistry that we understand to be all-pervasive in the Universe.

This ebook provides animation and interactive graphics to show how the Sun and its extended outer atmosphere works, how the Sun interacts with the Earth’s magnetic field, and how these interactions can have social and economic consequences.
